Generational differences in the workplace have
never been more of a hot button issue than they
are today. Just ask Angela Heyroth, Senior
Manager of Talent Acquisition at Charles Schwab;
she works with new college graduates as they enter
trainee programs at Charles Schwab & CO.
Angela and her colleagues are well aware of the
challenges and opportunities that surround
working with this new crop of college graduates.
Heyroth made note of how much discussion was
focused on this topic at the recent HCI Summit
in Scottsdale, AZ. She admits that the new college
graduates being recruited by Charles Schwab
today have "vastly different attitudes,
perceptions, and collective behaviors" from the
college grads from five or ten years ago. In Get
Over It! The Professional Image of College Students,
Heyroth will serve as our guide as we examine
about our own perceptions of these new
college graduates and contrast our perceptions
with reality. We'll then learn about some effective
strategies for recruiting these new entrants to the
workforce and what to expect when join our
companies.
