The last session of the morning was given by all-star Amy Titus, Director of Talent & Development/CLO of Deloitte. Deloitte’s coming off a great year – just recognized as #1 Professional Services Organization and just won the Catalyst award.
From a Talent Development perspective, Deloitte’s mission is to “bring together high performance and career/life fit – through living the lattice.” The Lattice is referencing another best practice program and strategy at Deloitte called “Mass Career Customization” – another area that Amy has responsibility for at the organization.
Three important questions were asked during the process of revamping Deloitte’s Talent Development strategy:
- Is our development strategy aligned and supportive of our business strategy?
- How are we investing in learning and measuring value?
- How do we all move beyond “order takers” to “business advisors”?
These questions led Amy’s team to develop 6 strategic solutions about Deloitte’s Talent Development strategy:
- Outside in
- Customized
- Leading Edge
- Integrated
- Outcome Driven
- Synchronized
All of which is underscored by the importance of alignment and integration – essentially that execution fails if a strategy, company, department, team, and/or people are misaligned.
Deloitte is in the process of building “Deloitte University” (DU). It is a bold investment that demonstrates (with bricks and mortar) the organization’s commitment to its people by enhancing culture, learning and brand. Amy also explains that DU will create that “cultural glue” that all organizations need.
Amy finished her talk by describing some other strong Talent Development frameworks and programs that are in place – one of which is “Deloitte Faculty Excellence” (DFX) – where “only the best teach” – a topic that was touched upon during the “Leaders Developing Leaders” HCI/LHH Research session yesterday. The other was around Milestone programs – for example, we learned about Deloitte’s new manager milestone program, which will be piloted in early 2011.
