According to Wikipedia, in many areas, the term "Mardi Gras" has come to mean the whole period of activity related to the celebratory events, beyond just the single day.” Is that how you treat hiring in your organization? At our recent Strategy and Workforce Planning conference, our keynote speaker Michael Michalowicz schooled the audience on a new hire’s first day versus last day of employment. He asked why organizations throw a huge party to celebrate when someone leaves but don’t do anything special when they arrive? It should be reversed right?
What does your hiring cycle looks like and how can you incorporate the popular practices of Mardi Gras - wearing masks and costumes, overturning social conventions, dancing, sports competitions, parades, etc. Ok, I may be reaching here but the point is FUN. People like to celebrate this occasion because they have fun doing it and they come back for more.
Have you included Gamification in your assessment and selection process? Tried video interviewing? Are you using mobile technology for recruiting? If a candidate has a choice between filling out a packet, updating their resume, emailing it and waiting weeks before hearing if they are being considered for an open position OR using a fit calculator designed like a game and getting an instant answer, which do you think they will choose?
Happy Mardi Gras/recruiting! If you have a fun tale to tell about how your organization recruits please share it!

Thanks James, it's certainly changed the way we think about welcoming new team members here.
That is a very good point. There should be some sort of celebration when someone new is brought into the business fold. I mean it is a great way to make someone feel welcome. I hope this idea catches on.
We always throw parties to say goodbye to someone when they leave casino dor but there is not much of anything done when someone comes in.
