In April, 2010, Fortune’s Jessi Hempel published a cover story that states, “More than 60 million members (of LinkedIn) have logged on to create profiles, upload their employment histories, and build connections with people they know.” Surely, LinkedIn and other social sites have gone mainstream for professionals wanting — needing — to network in these challenging economic times. At the same time, HR professionals seeking the best talent in the shortest amount of time and for the least amount of money are embracing new technologies as well. In particular, they are leveraging LinkedIn to find those so-called “passive” candidates who are currently employed elsewhere and may only have created a profile to research potential customers, network with peers, and stay in touch with former colleagues. Often in doing so, they reveal much about their professional capabilities.
Of course, whether searching for active or passive candidates, finding a single great hire out of those 60-million-plus members requires some skills in actually using the tool, and as Hempel writes, “...it has to be used carefully.” On July 28th, at 12:00 pm EDT, Wade Burgess, Director of Sales, United Kingdom for LinkedIn Hiring Solutions, will discuss the benefits and obstacles that organizations large and small have faced in marrying web 2.0 and their talent strategies.
