Would a different job title make you more or less excited about and engaged in your job? Not a new job, mind you, but a title that more accurately depicted what you actually do every day. What effect do job titles have on the talent attraction process? Lou Adler has been speaking and writing about improving job titles for years; I don’t think anyone really understands what a Business Analyst IS let alone that it might be a dream job. Bill Taylor at Fast Magazine writes about a feature his magazine used to run called “Job Titles of the Future.” He says, “So the next time you meet someone with a slightly offbeat job title, feel free to raise an eyebrow. But then take a moment to look deeper. Maybe that unique title does a good job of capturing something special about the company this person works for or the job he or she does. And think about your own title: Does it get the job done in terms of describing what you do and how you want to be known?”
Maybe it’s the job title that’s stopping the best leadership candidates from considering your opportunity. Or perhaps it’s your conventional notion of who an executive candidate is. Kevin Fitzgerald from Michael Page International discusses the attraction and selection of executive talent.

Master Burnett writes about elevating the level of work and popular dance show So You Think You Can Dance in his new blog post Rent Access to True Talent and Raise Everyone’s Game. “The point that we in the human capital management profession should hone in on is that often, access to truly top talent, even if just for a short time can make everyone else a better performer.”
What advice can you share? Human Capital Institute member Marilyn Kruger, Talent Acquisition Manager at Avery Dennison and Human Capital Strategist (HCS), asks about recruitment structure over on the HCI LinkedIn group. “We are currently going through an HR transformation at Avery Dennison, and I am interested in finding out what "best practice" talent acquisition structures look like. “
“What I would do if I lost the internet (including email) and mobile phone for two months? How would I find the talent I need to hire?” So asks Tim O’Connor, who also shares suggestions for thinking beyond technology when it comes to sourcing top talent.
