One quick question today for all HCI members: what's the first thing you read during the day related to your job? I'm always looking for new sites, blogs and publications to share with our members and your input would be much appreciated. So please give me 30 seconds of your time- post the publication name or url in our "comments" section. (And thanks in advance!)
Here are the top articles that caught my eye this morning:
According to FastCompany "Yay! Surveys Say Consumer Confidence on the Rise, Execs Planning to Hire Again. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, nearly 40% of chief executives said they plan to hire in 2010, according to a survey taken by PrivewaterhouseCoopers. The survey also found that 81% are confident about their prospects over the next year (compared to 64% last year), and 60% of chief executives think economic recovery in their home economy could occur as early as the second half of 2010. Not too shabby!"
Here's one to debate at the water cooler: "According to a new study by the University at Buffalo Regional Institute, from the time they’re teenagers, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways, women are tugged down a few rungs on the socioeconomic ladder.
Women are half the work force but comprise well less than half the leadership in workplaces: 4 percent in banking, 4 percent in computer companies, 5 percent in engineering, 10 percent in insurance, 11 percent in general contracting, 13 percent in law firms, and 14 percent of the 99 largest companies generally." What do you think? Is this representative of your workplace?
And last up, from Lou Adler, the The Financial Impact of Not Hiring the Least-best. Absolutely worth a read.

The first thing I read in the am, is my Washington Post subscription on my Kindle. Once my computer is fired up I spend time reading my Google feed of HCM blogs, then my TweetDeck HCM lists. It's all about the readers and news feeds to get the most out of my time.
