Muhammad Umar is currently the Director of Change Management and Organizational Design at Ciena corporation and leads their center of excellence. He is responsible for all enterprise matters relating to Organizational Change and Transformation as well as providing strategic guidance on Employee Engagement and Organizational Culture. With a background in Management Consulting, Mr. Umar spent the first 15 years of his career providing solutions across the globe to Fortune 500 organizations between his time at Watson Wyatt, Accenture, and Booz Allen. Prior to joining Ciena, Muhammad was a Manager in Deloitte’s Organizational Transformation practice. A sample of his clients include; American Express, Samsung Electronics, Dow Chemical Company, National Grid, Reed Elsevier, Genzyme Pharmaceuticals. He has also spent considerable time working with Federal and State government agencies.
Mr. Umar holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Mississippi State University concentrating in International Business. In addition, he is a certified Change Management Advanced Practitioner (CMAP) granted from the McDonough school of business at Georgetown University.
He resides in Maryland with his Wife and children.
