Nicola Dixon is the program officer for education at the General Mills Foundation, leading local, national and global education grant-making and partnerships for the Foundation. As part of this role, Nicola directs Join My Village (www.joinmyvillage.org) – a global philanthropic program in partnership with Merck and CARE USA, focused on expanding access to education and maternal health, and empowering women and girls in some of the world’s poorest communities. To date, Join My Village has positively impacted over 250,000 individuals in India and Africa.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication, Nicola spent the early years of her career working in agencies in strategic planning, before going on to earn her MBA and joining The Pillsbury Company/General Mills in 1999. During her marketing tenure with General Mills, Nicola led brands and grew some of the most trusted names in consumer goods, in roles spanning brand management, strategic planning and partnership development. Originally from South Africa, Nicola had a transcontinental upbringing, growing up in Australia and the United States. She and her family reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
