Don Robertson is the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team of Northwestern Mutual – a $30+ billion, Fortune 100 financial services company, the largest U.S. provider of life insurance, and manager of more than $570 billion in combined company and client assets.

Don joined the company in July 2018 to lead employee experience, developing and driving forward its people vision and employee value proposition to help Northwestern Mutual’s 8,000+ employees and 20,000+ field members deliver on the business strategy and propel its culture forward. His organization is comprised of 400+ team members from across HR, campus facilities, security and events.

Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual, Don held senior HR leadership and transformation roles with Fortune 50 companies and start-up firms. As head of HR with Apttus, Sutherland Global Services, and TrueCar, he led organization-wide efforts to reinvigorate the way these companies viewed talent – establishing people visions; building out teams; expanding growth, development and diversity; and truly transforming the employee experience.

He spent 14 years with Hewlett-Packard Corporation, where his broad-based HR experience culminated as Senior Vice President-HR Enterprise Services, leading a team of 300+ HR professionals responsible for all HR-related matters for a global organization of 150,000+ employees. His experience crosses geographic and cultural borders, having served in global roles including an assignment in Singapore for three years, leading a team of 1,000+ employees in the APAC region.

Don launched his career in accounting, finance and sales, as well as support of IPO efforts, before moving into HR. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University in Fresno, where he currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Craig School of Business. Don is also a CPA.

He resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his wife and two sons, and he serves as a member of the CNBC Workforce Executive Council, on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Humane Society and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, and on the board of advisors for Catalyst.
