12:45pm-1:20pm EDT Remote Onboarding to Foster Belonging, Engagement and Retention

General Session
One of the many challenges of wide-spread remote working has been the onboarding of newly hired employees. The logistical complexities alone can be daunting. Whether it’s setting up and shipping the necessary IT equipment or ensuring all required paperwork is reviewed, signed and submitted, the path is fraught with potential pitfalls. Every bit as challenging is assimilation at the human level, helping new hires to feel they belong and fostering in them belief in and passion for a team and organization they have never physically participated in. What do team leaders and HR partners need to know and do to increase the odds the people they have invested in recruiting and hiring will stay, feel engaged and make the hoped-for contributions?

In this session, you will learn:

  • The Five Foundations - empathy, honesty, responsiveness, real work, and team involvement - for productive remote on-boarding.
  • Counterintuitive strategies for conveying organizational intangibles like culture and team climate.
  • How to gauge the appropriate balance between team social interaction and team collaboration.
  • How to stay appropriately connected with your new hire while avoiding the trap of micro-managing.
